You can imagine my delight when one of the world’s leading lingerie and shape wear brands - Triumph International - invited me to attend the first ever Lingerie Catwalk at the prestigious London Fashion Week, despite the fact that I don’t stock Triumph on my site! More on that later…
After queuing outside the Grand Hotel in the West End of London for forty minutes - which although it was cold and damp was a great place to meet new people and to chat to some fellow lingerie lovers - Security finally allowed some of us in where we were checked off the guest list and shown to our seats. I’m sure you can imagine how I kicked myself when found out I had a press pass and my good camera was still sitting on the table at home…especially since I found out from the other paparazzi that we were actually hobnobbing with Tamara Ecclestone and Lisa Snowdon. So the only thing I had to take a few snaps with was my iPhone - hence the rather blurry photo, it was the best of the bunch!
Once every one was seated the lights were blacked out, the chattering audience hushed and the music began. Then a dramatic switch as the bright lights were turned on and the first models emerged. I watched in delight as they strutted their stuff along the runway, showcasing Triumph’s new “Shape Sensation” underwear collection that targets body areas that need that extra helping hand: a gorgeous cleavage with their padded bras, a slim waist and flatter tummy and pert bottom with their high-waisted control briefs, all-in-one corselettes , bodies and control skirts to create that perfect silhouette shape - fashion-leading styles in black, passion fruit and fog, ideal everyday wear for the modern woman.
As the models made their final encore showcasing all the pieces, everyone applauded and it finished as dramatically as it started. My only disappointment was I wished it had gone on longer. It was well worth the trip and I’m really pleased I was given the opportunity to be there.
The catwalk show confirmed my view that many of this season’s ranges from many of the major lingerie brands are focused on retro style underwear as research shows that more and more women seek to achieve a classic hourglass figure. What’s also happening though is that the plainness of the older retro designs is being spiced up for a sexier look – understanding that it’s not just what it does underneath our clothes that’s important, we also want our girdles and shapewear to look attractive worn on its own. Of course that’s not news to any of us at Joanna’s Wardrobe!
Although I tend not to stock many of the major lingerie brands as a rule, after seeing Triumph’s Vintage Collection, created in celebration of their 125th Anniversary and due to be released at the end of this year, I really would have liked to have broken my rule. This limited collection of vintage-inspired lingerie consists of a fabulous lace body dress, a bullet bra, a waist-slimmer, a high-waisted panty girdle and a couple of stunning corsets. Sadly they’ve sold out but I’m sure they’ll tell me the next time they’re thinking about a limited edition - I’d love to be involved!
