Lingerie with Love

An article in the London Evening Standard yesterday refers to the mind blowing dilemma of what men should buy their loved ones for Christmas, and – surprise, surprise - women want to be pampered, lingerie is an obvious gift, and your choice shouldn’t be just about you because she may interpret it as how you think of her…

I agree with the article to a certain degree - anything that has been seen in a strip show, in the window of a sex shop or on Katie Perry might not be quite what she wants to be seen in, but I can’t say I agree with the avoidance of red as the lingerie that’s on the top of my Christmas list is the fabulous Precieuse Collection from French designer Rosy. Ok, it isn’t a tacky red but more of a cyclamen - but nevertheless it’s still red!  But I do agree about doing your homework on sizing, because we women can read a lot into getting that wrong.  But to be honest it’s really easy, just take a sneak peek in her lingerie drawer and get the sizing of her favourite pieces.  Once you know her measurements we at Joanna’s Wardrobe are always happy to guide you in the right direction.

And although I agree with the advice ‘know your lady’ and what she likes and dislikes, I’m not sure if I received another set of something I already have in my underwear drawer I would find that very special or imaginative.  I would want something special, something sexy and alluring, maybe a bit of lace…. certainly I would want something that I could wear that would make me feel feminine and special.  And sorry but at Christmas pair of boy shorts just wouldn’t do it for me!

But at the end of the day guys, the thing to remember is that we want to be bought something for us, not for you. And not particularly something we need, but something we desire. And we want our men to be brave, to go for it.  OK so getting it wrong is a risk.  But if you get it right we’ll love you so much the more for it!

So get her sizes, have a bit of a think about what she likes, and drop me a line at Joanna’s Wardrobe!

Buying Lingerie as a gift for your wife or girlfriend

Women love to receive a present from a loved one, especially if it’s a very personal gift and especially if they can see lots of thought has gone into it. Lingerie is always a really special gift if it’s done in the right way. The choice of lingerie and the way is presented is really important though, as she will think of it as a reflection of how you see her.

Remember that the right lingerie is lingerie that makes her feel sexy and confident. The last thing you should want to do is to make her feel cheap and tacky. So when choosing the right lingerie for her, take into account not just the fact you will enjoy seeing her wearing it, but that she will enjoy wearing it, and that - in the world of lingerie - less isn’t always more! You can think outside the box, but think about what she would feel good in – and trust me, a tiny thong that doesn’t leave anything to the imagination isn’t most women’s idea of looking and feeling sexy -  remember this is meant to be a gift for her and not just for you!

 

As most attentive husbands and lovers know us women can be very touchy about the shape and size of our bodies, but don’t let that put you off - if you get it right the rewards will be well worth it!  To get an idea of her underwear size, rummage through her bras and knickers – in her lingerie drawer that it is, not while she’s wearing them – and have a peep at the sizes.  Once you have that information you can use our search page to narrow down your choices to those items we have in that size, or you can just browse through Joanna’s Wardrobe using the ‘Next Item’ button.  We’ve designed the pages so that it’s obvious at a glance what sizes we stock, and if there’s any special information about sizing it’ll be right there on the page too. When you’re considering what to buy think about how she views her body. Does she think her breasts are too small? If so look at bras that have some padding. Maybe she feels her hips are too large? Draw her eye away from them by buying briefs that have a matching camisole or lacy bra. Or maybe she’s conscious of her “love handles”? Try a sexy body shaping  garment that will smooth away a few lumps and bumps but will still look stunning. Happy Halloween from Joanna's Wardrobe

Getting into the spirit of Halloween, a time when houses are decorated with lanterns and pumpkins, and young children get dressed up in all types of costumes to trick and treat on their neighbours when it’s dark in return for sweets, apple bobbing and party games are all part of the tradition together with the watching of a scary horror movie.

Not wanting to miss out on chance to get dressed up, the girls at Joanna’s Wardrobe have been trying on some outfits to get into the spirit of things. Of course there’s no reason why you can’t add a bit of glamour to the occasion. After trying on lots of different outfits, I think we’re going to settle for beautiful   Vollers’ corsets teamed with an appropriate skirt. What’s really great about these corsets is that they’re so versatile and depending what you wear them with you can achieve a different look for any occasion.

Now we’ve got out outfits sorted it’s time   to finish our masks and wait till it gets dark  and the party witching hour for that’s when the fun really begins! Happy Halloween!

Cup Cake Press Party, featuring Kiss Me Deadly and Playful Promises

Just thought I let you all know that I spent a lovely afternoon yesterday at  a fabulous “Cup Cake” press party in the heart of London’s West End, in “Moose”, a nightclub near London’s busy Oxford Street.

It was delightful to be greeted by the hosts of the party, fabulous designer Lingerie brands Kiss Me Deadly, Playful Promises and Ayten Gasson.  And of course as it was a cup cake party, some fabulous cup cakes!

 

It was a great opportunity to preview all the fabulous new lingerie collections from Kiss Me Deadly, Playful Promises and Ayten Gasson.  A lingerie paradise with an array of gorgeous bras and knickers, corsets and thongs, stockings and suspenders - just perfect for Joanna’s Wardrobe next season …

I was particularly drawn to the beautiful satin teddies – I can remember wearing them in the 70s and loving them then, but they appeared more feminine this time round made in soft satins and silks edged in beautiful lace.

As a lover of stockings and suspenders and body-shaping girdles I really love the soon to be released girdle ranges from Kiss Me Deadly.  There really is something to be said for having effective body shaping undergarments that also manage to look sexy.  I was reading an article recently about “the do’s and don’ts of successful seduction lingerie ” which was saying body-shaping garments are a definite no – but the writer couldn’t have seen any of the shapewear in Joanna’s Wardrobe  or the  Candy Box (to be released November 2010) and the Candy Bow (to be realised February 2011) which would certainly help any girl achieve a smooth and curvy outline - and no lover would be disappointed!  Though I have to say stockings always help and if I remember rightly the wearing of stockings was at the top of the “do’s “!

On the day it was so lovely to meet so many faces that feature on Joanna’s Wardrobe, including the lovely Nicole from the Hourglass – who was at her happiest flashing her camera at the many models showing off the designers collections.  Also in attendance was the stunning Morgana, who models for Kiss Me Deadly,– shown here looking beautiful as ever with one of the girls modelling the Candy Bow collection.

Joanna's Wardrobe now on iPhone!

Lots of people have asked whether we could make Joanna's Wardrobe easier to use on their iPhones, so I had a word with my website designers to see if they could build me an App.

Well after a lot of umming and ahhing they came up with a version of the website that's useable on your iPhone! It's still web based, if you go to www.joannaswardrobe.com on your iPhone Safari browser the iPhone-friendly version will appear as if by magic! Our Alter Ego Competition winner Polly TCup

Polly won our joint competition early in the year, and now that she’s had the shoot and seen the results she’s kindly written a guest blog for us. Here’s what she has to say.

“I had such a amazing time when I won the competition at Joanna’s Wardrobe.  I got to become the lucky model with Alter Ego!

It was a total surprise, but something I had always dreamt of. We drove over to see Martin, Karen and Lola and were treated really well, I wasn't nervous, just really happy to have this amazing opportunity and couldn't wait to get started.

The makeup artist Nathalie was so lovely and started to transform me into some 1950's starlet, my hair and makeup was incredible.

Martin, Karen and Lola, their assistant were all so re-assuring and made feel me so comfortable, the bubbly helped too!!

Everybody was pampering me and made me feel like a million dollars!

I had such a special time and couldn't believe it when Lola said that was a wrap, my special time had come to an end.

We went to the local pub, that was funny walking into the pub, I caused a bit of a stir!!!

whilst the guys got the pictures ready for us to look at later.

This was the hard task, of then choosing 10 pictures from 60!!!! Eventually I got through them and made the decision which ones to have!

After a few weeks, my album arrived, everyone in my household were so excited to finally see them, and we weren't disappointed, my album looked so wonderful and I am very proud of myself. The album sits on my bookcase and I have shown it to my family and friends and no-one can believe it’s me, one particular friend thought I looked like Kate Beckinsale from Pearl Harbour, which made me speechless.

Definitely one of my best days this year!

Another Lingerie Photoshoot!

An exciting new up and coming photographer friend asked me the other day if it would possible to do a shoot with a model friend showing off some of the beautiful lingerie in Joanna’s Wardrobe.  Of course I’m always happy to give my friends a helping hand, and I like to take any opportunity to give you all some new inspirational ideas for your own lingerie wardrobes.

 

So anyway, after I said yes it got me thinking - I really enjoyed the My Alter Ego photoshoot and have been thinking about doing another, so I made a cheeky request and asked if I could be included in the modelling too.  I’m so excited, she said yes! Well to cut a long story short it’s all set for next week – like last time it’s very exciting but a little nerve wracking! Eeek!!

What to wear though, there are so many lovely lingerie items to choose from!  I thought it would be a really good idea to do an “Underwear or Outerwear?”  showcase, especially as more and more fashion trendsetters such as Kylie and Lady Gaga are wearing their underwear as outerwear, and what’s wrong with that!  So I need to find some things that will go nicely on their own, and some that would look nice under something sheer like the Vollers Chiffon Blouse in the picture.

Well this week is going to be busy putting together some lingerie items and skirts and blouses ready for the photo shoot as well as lingerie outfits that could be worn out by the more daring.  Lets be fair some of my lingerie is far too gorgeous to be hidden away!  I’ll keep you updated during the week which lingerie and stockings I’m thinking about taking to the shoot, although being a woman I could easily change my mind by then!
